Opportunities For Student Interns, Fellows And Volunteers
DVLC is proud of its long established practice of drawing on interns and volunteers to assist in providing legal services to victims of domestic violence. Without this assistance, many victims and their children would be unable to timely obtain the civil legal services they so desperately need.
Students are vital to the functioning of our agency. Because DVLC staff is small, students must be responsible, detail-oriented, motivated individuals capable of working autonomously.
Students work in the Clinic providing direct legal services. This includes interviewing the client, acting as a liaison between the attorney and the client during the screening process, and carefully preparing appropriate court documents. Prior to beginning work at the Clinic, interns must undergo on-site training, informing them about the dynamics of domestic violence and substantive domestic violence law and civil procedure.
Lastly, students licensed under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 may act as counsel in court under the supervision of the clinic's staff attorneys.
Opportunities For Attorney Volunteers
DVLC enthusiastically welcomes committed attorneys to volunteer their time on one of our many cases. Attorneys with practice experience in Family Law are especially encouraged to apply.
